I’ve looked online, in boutiques, in big department stores and even went thrift shopping a few times. My hunt has, unfortunately, been unsuccessful and I am still without a glamorous gown for the big event in a little over a month. Instead of crying myself to sleep every night, however, I’ve decided to be a big girl and channel my frustration into making sure that my date (Nick) looks as <i>dapper</i> as can be.</p> <p>I recently stumbled across an old photograph of some celebs at a red carpet event and decided that Nick needed to channel both his inner <b> Brad Pitt </b>and <b>George Clooney </b> at prom. However, as to be expected of a guy who prefers sweats to slacks, Nick had no idea what a cummerbund was when I mentioned it to him! To make matters worse he said the guys looked like “tools” when I showed him what a cummerbund looked like. When I came to school today there were even more guys who had no clue about this iconic menswear accessory. <b> Challenge Accepted</b>.</p> <p>After a few clicks around Google, I found a 2010 GQ article titled <b>“The Forgotten Rule of Black Tie”</b> a.k.a My Golden Ticket to Getting All The Guys to Wear Cummerbunds. Since I know that most of the gents out there are <i> way </i> too lazy to read the entire article, I’ve pasted an excerpt of the most important part below: </p><blockquote> One of the most important rules for black tie, however, is the one most commonly forgotten: cover your waist. Wearing a waistcoat, a double-breasted jacket or a cummerbund means that the only shirt visible is a powerful V at the chest, shooting up towards the shoulders, framed by silk, peaked lapels. No untidy white cloth is left to billow around the waist. The legs are lengthened, the waist suppressed, the shoulders emphasised. Your figure is flattered; you look good. </blockquote> So gents, if you don’t want to listen to me, listen to GQ. Prom is a <b> formal </b> event. If I could wear a glammed up version of this dress to prom I totally would! This girl made a great decision by opting for <strong>no accessories</strong>. Her nude shoe is just enough to make sure that the focus stays on her and the dress and nothing else. One thing we are definitely impressed by is the perfect fit. Nowadays you can only find something on either end of the specturm: <em>potato sack or skin tight</em>. Unfortunately, finding a fit like this is actually hard to do! Her dress fits very well and shows off her figure but doesn’t cling to her in a way that seems <em>suffocating</em>.
